PRsue App | Selecting a heart rate monitor
We take training seriously, so we built PRsue to provide feedback based on your heart rate. It is the most viable and affordable way to make sure you are training in the prescribed zones to build endurance and get faster. To unlock the power of PRsue’s personalized training, you’ll need to run with a heart rate monitor.

While we built PRsue to work with any Bluetooth Smart heart rate monitor, some manufacturers may restrict their device’s ability to connect to third party apps. We tested dozens of monitors that do connect to PRsue, and selected our Top 6 for reliability, accuracy, and ease of use. We recommend one of these chest straps:

We know that many of you use Garmin wearables to train. We are actively working with Garmin to be able to connect PRsue to their devices. If you subscribe to our PRsue mailing list you’ll get the news as soon as it’s working.

You’ll need to connect your heart rate monitor through the app (“Heart Monitors” under the “More” tab) for it to work with PRsue. Here are detailed instructions for connecting or troubleshooting your heart rate monitor.

Connecting Your Heart Rate Monitor
You need to configure your monitor to connect through the PRsue app. If you connect the monitor to your iPhone through the Bluetooth page under Settings, it will not work with PRsue. Configuring your monitor just takes a minute and you’ll only need to do it once. PRsue will remember your monitor for future runs. You must be wearing your heart rate monitor to make the connection. Configuring Your Monitor To connect your heart rate monitor for the first time:

1. Open the PRsue app
2. Select the “More” tab on the bottom of the screen
3. Select “Heart Monitors”
4. Select “Scan for Monitors”
5. When your monitor appears, tap it.

That’s it—you’re ready to go! If you need help troubleshooting your heart monitor connection to PRsue, view below.

Troubleshooting Your Connection
PRsue is designed to work with any heart rate monitor that uses Smart Bluetooth AND is not restricted from using third party apps by the manufacturer.

If your monitor is unrestricted and properly configured, there are several reasons that your monitor might fail to connect with PRsue:

1. If you are using another app on your phone that can connect to your monitor, it might be "stuck" talking to that app.
  • Completely close the other app (double-tap the Home button to see open apps and swipe up on an app window to dismiss it).
  • Remove a previously selected monitor on the Heart Monitors page under the “More” tab if applicable
  • Close the PRsue app
  • Turn off Bluetooth on iPhone via the settings
  • Restart Bluetooth
  • Open PRsue and go to the Heart Monitors page under the “More” tab
  • Scan for monitors and see if it comes up to connect to it

It is important that your heart rate monitor not be connected on the Bluetooth Settings page. This will prevent the PRsue app from “finding” the monitor and connecting.

2. If the heart rate monitor cannot sense your heartbeat, the monitor will not be visible to your phone.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to get a good connection with your skin. A common recommendation is to wet the side of the monitor that faces your skin with water. This allows it to better sense your heartbeat.
  • Check or replace battery. Heart monitor batteries typically last for a very long time, but a very weak or dead battery could cause your monitor not to show up.
3. The iPhone might be connected to a different Bluetooth device.
  • Go to Heart Monitors under the “More” tab and remove the previously selected monitor, if there is one
  • Close the PRsue app (double-tap the home button and swipe up on the app window to dismiss the app window)
  • Disconnect all hardware connected via Bluetooth in your iPhone settings
  • Open PRsue and go to the Heart Monitors page under the “More” tab
  • Scan for monitors and see if it comes up to connect to it
4. A temporary glitch related to Bluetooth connectivity in the phone's operating environment might prevent connection.
  • Go to Heart Monitors under the “More” tab and remove the previously selected monitor, if there is one
  • Power off your iPhone entirely
  • Restart your iPhone
  • Open PRsue and go to Heart Monitors under the “More” tab
  • Scan for monitors and see if it comes up to connect to it
